Marvin the Martian is an animated character from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of short films. He is typically depicted as a small, somewhat androgynous being with a large, bulbous head, dressed in Roman soldier-inspired attire. This consists of a helmet resembling a brush, a skirt, and sandals. His face is usually obscured, with only large, expressive eyes visible.

Introduced in the 1948 short "Haredevil Hare," Marvin is a resident of Mars with a single-minded objective: to destroy Earth. He often employs elaborate and technologically advanced weaponry in his schemes, most notably the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator (also often mispronounced as the Q-36 Modulator). His motivation is typically that Earth obscures his view of Venus.

Despite his destructive intentions, Marvin is portrayed as a calm, soft-spoken, and intellectual character. His demeanor is often a humorous contrast to the chaotic situations he creates. He is frequently accompanied by his pet Martian dog, K-9. Marvin has appeared in numerous shorts, television shows, and films, becoming a popular and recognizable villainous figure in animation.
